Gormani Ceremony

Gormani Ceremony

In the music of the subcontinent and Afghanistan there is a tradition called "Gormani".
In the teaching of this music, which is still based on the transfer of experience from the master to the student, the student must receive a thread of devotion from the master in a formal meeting after going through a series of steps.

This thread which is usually made of silk is a chain link between masters that is passed from one to another. Gor or black sugar with which master and student sweeten their palate is a sign of the sweetness of their relationship.

The veterans of the music field present in the gathering take turns putting the thread of devotion on the forehead, kissing it and praying until it finally reaches the hand of the master with whom the student is supposed to be his deciple. The master ties it to the student's right hand and the sweets is spread in the gathering. The main reliance in this tradition is on politeness and sincerity.

Amir Khusrow Balkhi Foundation during its activities honored this meaningful music tradition by veterans.
